Volunteering for Splash

During the weekend of Splash, we expect the Stanford campus to be crowded with eager middle and high school students and their parents. They will need help finding their way around this place, help getting to their class, help contacting the ESP office, and (most of all) help registering for their classes on the first day of the program.

In particular, Splash registration would involve a large number of students (plus parents) in one place. Our job is to get everyone on their way as quickly as possible, as well as be friendly, accommodating, and willing to get help for anyone (and to make sure the program directors’ heads don’t explode and get brain fragments all over our clothes). This is the best time all year for you to make a difference by volunteering once, only once, for a few hours.

Requirements:

• 18 years of age
• In college or beyond

Volunteer roles include:

• Student Check-In: Check in students who registered online
• Information Desk: Help students and parents with general questions (ex. where is building 160)
• On-site Registration: Help students who didn’t register early find classes
• Teacher Check-In: Greet teachers and give them supplies for their classes
• Lunch: Help distribute lunch to all the Splash participants
• Afternoon Activities: Play board and card games with kids or throw a frisbee / kick a soccer ball around on the oval
• Directions: Help lost students find their way to class
• Cleanup: Help get everything picked up after another awesome Splash!
• General: Help admins with whatever tasks they need to get done (getting VGA cables to class, dealing with cancelled classes, etc.)

Important Information for Volunteers:

• Bring your laptop for onsite student registration (no one but you will be using it)!
• You can sign up for more than one volunteer time slot!
• If you are teaching, you can also sign up to volunteer as long as your class doesn’t conflict with your volunteer time slot!
