Brief Biographical Sketch:
Hailing from Martinez, CA over in the East Bay, Eddie graduated last spring from Stanford with a degree in Physics, concentrating in theoretical physics, and is now a first year physics graduate student at UC Santa Cruz specializing in theoretical cosmology. His favorite areas of physics are cosmology, particle physics, and particularly relativity. When not doing nerdy things, he likes to be outdoors whether it be hiking, laying on beaches, snowboarding, or exercising. Past Classes(Look at the class archive for more.)Quantum Mechanics: What's the deal? in Splash! Fall 2009
Come and learn about one of the most enthralling areas of science, yet one of the most poorly understood. Quantum mechanics dominates in systems that are much smaller than we are used to in our everyday lives, such as atoms, and therefore produces unexpected results. In this course, we'll dive into some of the basic postulates and consequences of quantum mechanics, and clear up some common misconceptions.
Einstein's Special Relativity in Splash! Spring 2009
Using only the pythagorean theorem and very simple algebra, we will derive and explore some exciting consequences of Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity, including length contraction, time dilation, and non-absolute simultaneity!
The Story of our Universe: From the Beginning to the ...End? in Splash! Spring 2009
Ever wonder about how the universe began? Or what the fate of the universe holds? Is the universe expanding? How matter and galaxies form? In this class, I'll give an overview of modern cosmology (study of the universe) and introduce many topics that researchers today are attempting to tackle!
Einstein's Special Relativity in SPLASH (2008)
