Learn about the core ethical ideas that govern all scientific and medical research. Discover the criteria that must be met for medical research and clinical trials. Explore the level of adherence of various forms of scientific research to these core principles and the means of oversight setup to ensure research is conducted in an ethical manner.
Ethics of Scientific and Medical Research - Part 2: Examples & Cases in Splash! Spring 2012
This second course will explore specific topics, examples, and cases; where the ethics of research are non-trivial to evaluate and often accompanied with social controversy. This class focuses on applying the core principles learned in part 1 to actively debated areas of scientific and medical research.
Introduction to Neuroprosthetics: Part 1 - Neuroscientific Basis and Theory in Splash! Spring 2012
Learn about the emerging field of neural prosthetics: electronic systems that interface with and connect to the brain and nervous system. This first course will contain a brief introduction to neuroscience as well as set up some of the guiding principles used in the field, transitioning to real-world examples as time permits.
Introduction to Neuroprosthetics: Part 2 - Commerical and Developing Systems in Splash! Spring 2012
This second course will pick up where the previous one left off and continue with descriptions of neural prosthetic systems that are commercially available or under active development. Systems discussed will include retinal prostheses, cochlear implants, and cortical communication and motor prosthetics.
Ethics of Scientific and Medical Research in Splash! Fall 2011
Learn about the core ethical ideas that govern all scientific and medical research. Discover the criteria that must be met for medical research and clinical trials. Explore the level of adherence of various forms of scientific research to these core principles and the means of oversight setup to ensure research is conducted in an ethical manner. Additionally, the second half of this course will explore specific topics, examples, and cases; where the ethics of research are non-trivial to evaluate and often accompanied with social controversy.
Introduction to Neuroprosthetics in Splash! Fall 2011
Learn about the emerging field of neural prosthetics: electronic systems that interface with and connect to the brain and nervous system. Course will contain a brief introduction to neuroscience as well as an overview of current neuroprosthetics. Topics covered will span clinical interfaces to existing commercial systems and research devices.

Ethics of Scientific and Medical Research - Part 1: Concepts & Principles in Splash! Spring 2010
Learn about the core ethical ideas that govern all scientific and medical research. Discover the stringent (or not so stringent) criteria that must be met for medical research and clinical trials. Explore the level of adherence of various forms of scientific research to these core principles and the means of oversight setup to ensure research is conducted in an ethical manner.
Ethics of Scientific and Medical Research - Part 2: Examples & Cases in Splash! Spring 2010
This second course will explore specific topics, examples, and cases; where the ethics of research are non-trivial to evaluate and, not surprisingly, often accompanied with much social controversy. This class focuses on applying the core principles learned in part 1 to actively debated areas of scientific and and medical research.
