Why Hip-Hop Matters in Splash! Spring 2012
This class will be the history of the cultural movement known as hip-hop. We will examine its importance as well as why so many people seem drawn to it. It will include an extremely brief survey of classical hip-hop artists. The most important part of the class will be a discussion of whether hip-hop as an art form and a subculture has done more harm than good.

The Social Contract: What it is and Why it Matters in Splash! Spring 2012
It is difficult to think of a more important topic than governance. Why have certain forms of government been more conducive to the aims of individual nations? How much power should governments have? These are some of the questions that we can hopefully broach in our short time together. Just what did Thomas Hobbes mean by the "Leviathan"? Come ready to think about controversial topics.

Economics in One Lesson in Splash! Spring 2012
Much of the economics useful for making informed life and voting decisions can be introduced effectively in a single class. Based on Henry Hazlitt's famous book of the same name, this course will seek to begin to introduce students to the way economists think about everyday issues. While I cannot promise that you will be ready for a tenured economics position at an elite university by the end of the course, I do guarantee that you will be able to at least enter the conversation about economic issues.

The Most Remarkable Things We Know in Splash! Fall 2011
Come learn about some of the most remarkable things humans have come to figure out. They range from the origin of the cosmos to how we think about the world. We will go through a sweeping (albeit brief) history of the universe as well as explore our inner psychology.
