Brief Biographical Sketch:
Hello. My name is Winnie Liang. I am a second year in the chemistry department at Stanford. I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2008 majoring in chemical biology. Since then I worked at the National Institutes of Health for a year before starting graduate school here. I love chemistry and had experience in tutoring college students in organic chemistry, calculus and physics. Besides school work, I also do dancing and go to sport games. Have you ever wondered about why we get sick and how we can protect ourselves from pathological agents that exist everywhere? Besides viruses and bacteria, do you know that we can also be attacked by a variety of parasites? In this class we will discuss the biology, ecology, evolution, epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and prevention of a few parasitic diseases that infect humans. In addition you will gain a better understanding of the host-parasite relationship in the context of a deadly parasite--malaria.
