Brief Biographical Sketch:

Marcella is a lifelong learner with may interests from earthbag home construction and permaculture to homeschooling, middle-eastern and other dancing, art and hand crafts.

She enjoys mentoring to others with similar interests and promoting lifelong learning in all disciplines from an arts perspective.

She has been a student of middleeastern dance for the past eight years, and long ago studied ballet, jazz, and tap. Marcella has been knitting for ten years and loves to share her experiences.

In her role as Community Outreach Manager, Marcella helps high school and college students prepare to apply to medical school.

Learn a brief history of Mehandi, popularly known as Henna - a traditional body art. Explore traditional and modern uses and designs, the science of henna, then practice designing your own henna tattoo and apply to your hand!


H3338: Henna Your Hands! Creative, Temporary Body Art in Splash! Fall 2013 (Nov. 02 - 03, 2013)
Learn a brief history of Mehandi, known as Henna - a traditional body art. Explore traditional and modern uses and designs, learn the science of henna, then practice designing your own henna tattoo and adorn yourself! Participants will learn about the cultural history of henna and it’s common uses then and now from decorating hands and feet to coloring clothing and drums. After a brief lecture participants will practice drawing designs and apply a design to their hands. Participants will leave with a design, the instructors henna recipe, and care instructions. This session uses natural henna (www.hennaforhair.com) lemon juice, and hairspray as a fixative for the henna. The Henna will be pre-made in cones, but you will learn to make your own henna cone. Leave the paste on for a minimum of four hours up to overnight if you cover your design. Henna is a stain so don't wear your favorite outfit to this session in case you spill. Questions? H1260: Learn to Knit in Splash! Spring 2011 (Apr. 16 - 17, 2011)
Learn basic stitches and learn to read a knitting pattern. Participants will knit a blanket square and explore making other quick-knit items if time permits.
