Brief Biographical Sketch:

I'm a 5th year PhD student in the Stanford Geophysics Department working on locating sources of repeated seismicity in volcanic environments. I look for special types of volcano-seismic signals that are often undetectable by standard subsurface imaging techniques. These signals can often be very good short- and long-term indicators of potential volcanic hazards (i.e. eruptions), but have been hard to locate in the past because they are buried within the abundant "noise" that a volcanic system (or the town/city/ocean/wind, etc. near it) continuously makes. I use seismic array processing to get as much information out of the data as possible and determine the most likely source locations of repeated volcanic earthquakes in the subsurface.

M4555: Big Earth, Big Data in Splash Fall 2015 (Nov. 07 - 08, 2015)
A brief introduction to some of the biggest problems that scientists face when studying the Earth. We'll talk about the different types of data geoscientists use to learn about Earth processes, and some of the tools (hardware and especially software) they use to do so.
