L6944: Waltz for Beginners in Splash Spring 2019 (May. 04 - 05, 2019)
Formals? Prom?? Do you want to learn how to dazzle a room with your dancing? Were you ever curious what it meant to feel like you were dancing on clouds? Have you ever wished you could waltz like Mia and Sebastian in La La Land? Well now is your chance to learn how to waltz! We'll start from the very basic steps, learn about what it means to be a great dance partner, and by the end have you dancing like stars. You'll learn tips and tricks that will come in handy both on the dance floor and in everyday life. This class is inspired by one of the most popular classes in the University! Notes: Absolutely no experience required in any kind of dance or music! Social dance is all about having fun and learning together. We rotate partners rapidly in class. Here’s an example from this year’s Stanford Viennese Ball: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHdLiit0ZAU

L6947: Street Swing for Beginners in Splash Spring 2019 (May. 04 - 05, 2019)
Prom coming up? Ever hear a ~bop~ and wish you knew how to dance to it with some style and a partner in your arms? We will learn a dance known as Street Swing (aka Bugg aka 4-count Hustle) because it’s a grassroots American dance, meaning it’s super easy to pick up. If you can take 4 steps, you can dance it! We'll start from the very basic steps, pick up a bunch of really smooth moves, learn about what it means to be a great dance partner, and by the end have you dancing like stars. Here’s an example from this year's Viennese Ball (we will be doing a dance similar to this, but easier that works with a lot of popular music like Shut Up and Dance): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOQx7VkStNE
