Brief Biographical Sketch:

Born in mainland China, I attended Beijing University studying finance and have unique exchange experiences at the University of Hong Kong as well as University of Southern California. The exchange encourages me to help others have better undergrad experience. I love numbers and computer applications and strongly believes that technology can make life better. As a visitor and teacher for this spring Splash Program, I'm also trying my best to start Splash! Beijing Chapter in fall when I'll be back in Beijing.

M1457: Introduction to Programming Applications with Python in Splash! Spring 2011 (Apr. 16 - 17, 2011)
This course mainly focuses on providing students a perspective that programming can be of great daily use. We will first provide some basic knowledge about computer programming with Python. Then we'll move on to see some basic applications of Python in daily life. Finally, we will walk through the process building up a program which automatically downloads stock data from online sources and illustrates them in a stock chart. In-class labs will be the main part of the course to help students truly understand the basics of programming applications. Do bring your own laptop if you can, although we will try our best to offer access to computers.

M1462: Introduction to Economic Data Analysis with Gretl in Splash! Spring 2011 (Apr. 16 - 17, 2011)
Running and interpreting economic data is the key part in most empirical economic studies. This course will provide an introduction on how to run economic data using different models, using the Gretl Platform. In this course, students will get to know not only how to build up a model, but how to interpret the model and data as well. Some math derivation will be demonstrated to be the basis for the models but none of them is required. Remember, applications are the core content of this course. Bring your own laptop if you can, although we'll try our best to provide access to computers.
