Brief Biographical Sketch:

Yoo Jung is a recent graduate of Dartmouth College and a third-year medical student at Stanford University.

As a high school senior, she published her first science research paper on the 3D conformation of the yeast genome in the journal Nature.

She attended Dartmouth College and went on to publish more original research in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science and PLOS Genetics. At Dartmouth, she wrote for the daily newspaper as a staff columnist and served as the editor-in-chief of the Dartmouth Undergraduate Journal of Science.

After college, Yoo Jung worked at the National Institutes of Health before attending Stanford University, where she conducted research on pancreatic cancer and rare autoimmune diseases.

Yoo Jung is also the co-author of a book, "What Every Science Student Should Know," which was published by the University of Chicago Press in May 2016.

The workshop "What Every College Science Student Should Know" aims to serve as a mentor for the aspiring STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) student. This workshop is a distillation of years of research and interviews with successful scientists and other science students. The workshop will point out the challenges students commonly face when pursuing a science major. We'll focus on choosing a major, mastering study skills and time management, conducting scientific research, finding a job, applying to graduate and professional schools, and, most importantly, how to foster and maintain a lifelong love of science.


B4770: From College to Medical School in Splash Spring 2016 (Apr. 09 - 10, 2016)
"From College to Medicine" will give provide a brief overview on how to prepare for medical school admissions and get the most out of your college experience. The course is based on my own experiences in the medical school admissions process along with those of others. The course will include lessons on: -Figuring out whether medicine is right for you. -How you can get the most out of your university for your pre-med experience. -How to excel in your prerequisite courses. -How to mobilize your extracurricular activities to further your goals in medicine. -Crafting your very own "pre-med story" for medical school admissions.

Calling all changemakers! Are you interested in starting a service project? If you want to design and implement a plan to improve your school, community, or the world, attend the World Changer's Think Tank! World Changer's Think Tank will present advice distilled from the experiences of university students and young professionals who are improving their world one project at a time--from delivering teddy bears to hospitals and orphanages in Ghana to installing U.V. water filters in Guatemala to giving refugees access to after-school education. World Changer’s Think Tank will teach you how to: -Brainstorm Ideas -Identify Resources -Budget Successfully -Delegate Responsibilities -Execute Your Project -Build on Your Results Participants will be able to present their community service project proposals at the conclusion of the workshop.
